[0s] i will check it [4s] i zoom it okay here it is [14s] so [31s] i will tweet it [43s] so you tweeted the link but without any [44s] context was that on purpose [47s] uh not really [51s] okay uh i'm gonna go check the link to [55s] make sure but it looks [56s] looks good to me so [59s] if if i click the link it's just okay [1m 1s] streaming [1m 2s] okay perfect all right for me it was on [1m 6s] this [1m 6s] blank placeholder screen yeah no it's [1m 9s] actually not streaming [1m 10s] so yeah i would actually put out a a [1m 12s] tweet um that actually says hey we're [1m 14s] live right now [1m 15s] stay tuned yeah and and if you come [1m 17s] across this later [1m 18s] then this link will work for um [1m 22s] you know to see the replay or something [1m 24s] and then when you tweet that i'll [1m 25s] retweet it [1m 33s] hey frank hey [1m 37s] let's see how do we chat in there can we [1m 39s] chat in there [1m 40s] uh you should or at least i can you can [1m 43s] yeah i can't but i could just go over to [1m 45s] youtube and chat there if i wanted [1m 46s] but i just get to say it he's here [1m 49s] because of the tweet [1m 50s] what's up joseph [2m 2s] okay [2m 6s] have treated with at least one sentence [2m 9s] [Laughter] [2m 20s] it didn't go out yet i'm only just [2m 22s] seeing the one with just the the link [2m 28s] i will delete the one with the link i'm [2m 31s] not seeing the one with the full the [2m 33s] full sentence oh here you go 32 seconds [2m 35s] just took a second perfect [2m 36s] retweet great [2m 43s] so i don't know okay [2m 47s] i can't see how many people [2m 50s] are are watching this stream right now [2m 52s] here in [2m 53s] recent years [2m 57s] we have five people now [3m] so yeah you want to give it maybe just [3m 4s] two minutes since everybody didn't have [3m 5s] the link to join if they're planning to [3m 7s] yeah i do know quite a few people at [3m 8s] titan are because they're [3m 10s] um at work right now they're gonna watch [3m 12s] the replay so [3m 13s] and that's something i've experienced a [3m 15s] lot with live streams is that a lot of [3m 16s] people [3m 17s] you know they're like hey in my [3m 18s] particular time zone you know i'm gonna [3m 20s] have to watch the replay [3m 21s] hey hey jorge jorge [3m 24s] harge or hey oh hey look at that that's [3m 27s] cool [3m 29s] do you get to do do you pick a chat item [3m 31s] and choose to feature it like that [3m 33s] yeah uh i can just hover on on a comment [3m 36s] in [3m 36s] the right sidebar and click on it and [3m 39s] very cool it will show up so like [3m 44s] for those of you who don't know um this [3m 46s] is a really cool a lot there's [3m 48s] um hey kristoff the there are a lot of [3m 50s] people have been creating these projects [3m 51s] these team things like this where you do [3m 52s] like a whole bunch of people together [3m 54s] but you restream is the one i use for [3m 56s] all of my um [3m 58s] my streaming so my obs streams to [3m 59s] restream and it sends to twitch and [4m 1s] youtube [4m 1s] and so tom discovered that restream has [4m 3s] one of these two which is super cool [4m 5s] um i'm definitely gonna use this because [4m 6s] in the past what i've been doing is like [4m 8s] call somebody on skype and then share [4m 10s] their skype window into my obs [4m 12s] which is just so much more work than [4m 14s] this which is just so freaking [4m 15s] convenient so [4m 17s] good if you feel like you want [4m 20s] a bit more uh tooling around [4m 24s] you can also use obs to stream uh [4m 28s] to restring one of the sources basically [4m 31s] yeah [4m 32s] and i think they also have a zoom [4m 35s] integration [4m 36s] i don't know how this works but hey [4m 38s] marcel [4m 39s] hey all who have joined last minute [4m 43s] so [4m 54s] i hope you all have something to drink [4m 56s] or [4m 57s] eat or whatever and have a perfect [5m 1s] and have a nice place to watch it yeah [5m 4s] if any of you this is probably us only [5m 6s] but this right here is freaking amazing [5m 8s] it's [5m 9s] pea protein milk so they just took pea [5m 11s] protein and water and then said it's [5m 13s] milk [5m 13s] and then this one they added some [5m 14s] chocolate and some more protein so [5m 20s] adam said is watching the other feed is [5m 22s] there a second feed [5m 23s] yeah okay i think this was [5m 27s] the same like i think you had last time [5m 29s] yeah the same thing [5m 30s] yep you announce a stream via [5m 33s] youtube and planet but you are unable to [5m 36s] connect to this stream via restream [5m 39s] studio [5m 40s] so i think you can plan events in [5m 43s] restream but [5m 45s] yeah whatever i think people are not as [5m 47s] ego right [5m 48s] yeah yep [5m 53s] yeah so kristoff and um frank have both [5m 55s] said they have the same experience [5m 56s] whereas you don't get a lot of people in [5m 58s] the live stream [5m 59s] but then you know you do get enough to [6m 1s] get fun chats with some people [6m 2s] but then it's the replays that are [6m 4s] really kind of where the videos people [6m 5s] really watch them because just a lot of [6m 7s] people can't can't watch it live [6m 8s] so yeah exactly uh we have [6m 11s] a worldwide community with right [6m 15s] of time zones yeah so even if we try to [6m 19s] match [6m 20s] at least a big part of the world and i [6m 22s] think [6m 23s] we are able to do this right now so with [6m 26s] uh [6m 27s] yeah end of evening in europe and [6m 30s] midday in in the us and some [6m 34s] hours also for our asian friends but i [6m 37s] think for ex [6m 38s] uh australia for example will be [6m 39s] definitely what time is it in sydney [6m 41s] right now right [6m 42s] time is it i think they are the [6m 45s] exact opposite of my time zone so it [6m 48s] should be [6m 49s] five a.m uh sydney it's one o'clock in [6m 52s] the morning [6m 54s] oh okay [6m 57s] so they are sydney is the exact opposite [7m] of [7m 3s] two time zones east of me which i don't [7m 4s] know if there's anybody there [7m 6s] the the east coast of brazil when it's [7m 8s] not daylight savings time is [7m 10s] is two times used to me so we have 15 [7m 13s] now we got i think 15 is okay [7m 16s] okay it's the magic number [7m 19s] so hey all uh i've made [7m 24s] a big trouble during the last week on [7m 26s] twitter [7m 28s] and i am quite happy to [7m 31s] announce it today uh in combination with [7m 34s] matt who helped me to [7m 39s] to get it done even if he hasn't written [7m 41s] a single line of code but [7m 44s] he were a perfect consultant for me [7m 49s] so yeah let's go [7m 52s] and start with a presentation [7m 56s] so [7m 59s] so this is the image you all know and [8m 2s] let's remove the ellipses and [8m 7s] here you go exactly so the tool we is it [8m 12s] intentional is that you are muted [8m 14s] matt yeah i just wanted to make sure [8m 16s] that you want we're all [8m 17s] swallowing when i'm drinking okay [8m 21s] so the tool i'm announcing is appender [8m 26s] very few of you uh already know it so [8m 30s] freak for example [8m 32s] um because i had to to invite some [8m 35s] in the early beta process to to test and [8m 39s] play around with it all of you [8m 42s] who already want to check it out now [8m 45s] this is the domain [8m 46s] so you can access it says no [8m 50s] anything you have to do just click on it [8m 52s] you can visit it and [8m 54s] says it's always a sign in but it's also [8m 57s] sign up button in the upper right [9m] and now [9m 4s] before we are talking about what [9m 6s] appender is [9m 8s] uh first introduction of myself so i am [9m 11s] tom witkowski [9m 12s] founder of astrotomic and open source uh [9m 16s] collective and [9m 20s] it's a yeah i the [9m 23s] so organization behind opener [9m 26s] we are already two people right now with [9m 28s] uh sarah [9m 30s] and yeah now i'm also the founder of [9m 33s] appendemi [9m 34s] uh you can see some links uh you can if [9m 37s] you want to follow me [9m 38s] and check out what i'm doing [9m 42s] and now med's turn [9m 46s] i i don't even deserve this slide [9m 47s] literally all i've done [9m 49s] as all these things is i've hung out [9m 51s] with tom [9m 52s] and validated his brilliant ideas uh so [9m 54s] i'm matt [9m 56s] if you don't know who i am i'm your [9m 57s] friend you know that's my usual pitch [10m 1s] perfect so i will do it quick uh he is [10m 4s] partner and technical director of titan [10m 5s] and i think most of you know him as [10m 9s] a big part of the larger community [10m 12s] uh a very kind person definitely [10m 15s] so thank you my friend even if he says [10m 18s] he doesn't divert deserves it [10m 20s] a big thank you [10m 23s] and yeah a short overview [10m 26s] um first a short introduction so some [10m 30s] things and after this is my motivation [10m 33s] so why i have created this tool because [10m 37s] i think this is something [10m 38s] missing sometimes if you just see the [10m 40s] tool um [10m 43s] then the goals future roadmap so [10m 46s] how the tool can or will evolve during [10m 49s] the next [10m 50s] weeks months and so on [10m 53s] uh yeah daniel i'm sorry this was the [10m 57s] first [10m 58s] planned link but uh i wasn't able to [11m 1s] connect to it [11m 2s] uh today so i had to create a new one [11m 6s] and yeah some [11m 10s] closing words so like uh sponsors how do [11m 13s] you [11m 13s] if you want to contact me how you can do [11m 15s] and some parting words [11m 17s] so first a special thanks to yeah matt [11m 21s] as my [11m 21s] consultant and uh idea validator [11m 26s] secondly is sarah who is uh now the [11m 29s] co-maintainer of [11m 30s] astrotomic she has joined me [11m 33s] i don't know two months ago or something [11m 35s] like this [11m 36s] and yeah already helped me a lot even [11m 40s] if not directly so as much with appender [11m 43s] but [11m 43s] with keeping my back clear of all the [11m 46s] tasks coming in with the [11m 48s] other 27 packages we've already released [11m 50s] at s atomic [11m 52s] and daniel has helped me with [11m 55s] writing and yeah he has created [11m 58s] fhqs for example and checked some [12m 2s] some of the wordings i had and yeah met [12m 5s] that also the same as a native english [12m 6s] speaker he was a [12m 7s] epic help [12m 11s] so my motivation and some background [12m 16s] my whole career started back in 2015 and [12m 20s] or at least my open source carrier and [12m 24s] this is also the biggest motivation [12m 25s] behind it because my whole carrier is [12m 27s] based on open source [12m 29s] so at this point a really big [12m 32s] thank you to frake who has asked me back [12m 35s] in 2016 i think [12m 37s] to join as a spart here as a maintainer [12m 41s] of some packages first one was activity [12m 44s] lock i think [12m 45s] and i'm now maintaining several of [12m 49s] sparky packages and helping where i can [12m 52s] and yeah in 2015 i've also founded [12m 56s] astrotomic [12m 57s] to keep some packages in it i've [13m] created during this time and [13m 4s] all the stuff and everything that [13m 6s] happens afterwards [13m 7s] change definitely my carrier so i [13m 8s] wouldn't be [13m 10s] at this point in my career where i am [13m 12s] now [13m 14s] without open source it was [13m 17s] a lot of work definitely but for me it [13m 19s] was also worth it [13m 20s] because open source is something you can [13m 23s] carry [13m 24s] between different employers so [13m 28s] not like uh company projects you have [13m 31s] left [13m 32s] you have to left behind if you join a [13m 34s] new company or something [13m 35s] open source is a persistent between [13m 39s] whatever day job you are doing and [13m 43s] after i have done some [13m 46s] work at spa here and as atomic it was a [13m 50s] big door opener because [13m 51s] uh as soon as i was able to to talk to [13m 55s] the i.t department [13m 56s] so cto head of development or whoever [13m 59s] was [13m 59s] responsible to talk with me during [14m 4s] application process [14m 8s] this was really a big deal of not always [14m 10s] because [14m 12s] say already knew my name and [14m 16s] sometimes also say it like oh you're at [14m 19s] home yeah we are using your code already [14m 21s] in [14m 22s] most of our projects for example so [14m 25s] this helps a lot to get in and [14m 28s] it also helped a lot and sense that i i [14m 31s] nearly never had to do [14m 33s] any coding challenges because my github [14m 36s] profile was [14m 37s] like the coding challenge beforehand so [14m 41s] head of development were able to to [14m 43s] check it out to read through my code [14m 45s] what's important for me for example to [14m 47s] code so because all of this code is [14m 49s] written by me [14m 50s] so you can see how i'm coding which [14m 53s] tools to [14m 54s] check code quality for example i use and [14m 56s] so on and [15m] i've already stated in in a side [15m 3s] sentence [15m 4s] uh some motivation behind it this only [15m 8s] worked [15m 8s] as soon as i were able to talk to the [15m 10s] i.t department [15m 12s] the whole process before with recruiters [15m 14s] and [15m 16s] the human resource department and so on [15m 18s] they don't know [15m 19s] github they are unable to understand it [15m 21s] which is totally fine because it's not [15m 23s] their job to [15m 24s] to click through all the repositories [15m 26s] and understand what it means that i've [15m 28s] committed or whatever and [15m 32s] this part that appender me should solve [15m 36s] it should provide or it already does [15m 39s] a public profile for you as a [15m 42s] open source developer contributor [15m 44s] maintainer whatever [15m 46s] and [15m 50s] read uses or yeah reduces [15m 53s] all the data we retrieve from github [15m 56s] into [15m 57s] a profile every or nearly everyone is un [16m 1s] enabled able to understand so [16m 4s] for some persons of you who have already [16m 8s] checked it out if you go to the profile [16m 11s] or if you click on the home page on any [16m 12s] of the link profiles [16m 14s] says for example this top paragraph that [16m 19s] says to how many repositories you have [16m 22s] contributed in which languages and so on [16m 24s] and [16m 25s] this for example the first paragraph [16m 27s] introductions [16m 28s] recruiter can can see and understand [16m 34s] and [16m 36s] oh sorry kaneko yeah my bad somehow [16m 42s] but not much yet it's i've i'm talking [16m 45s] about my motivation [16m 46s] and you've missed possibly is a link but [16m 49s] i think [16m 50s] i've invited you already so [16m 54s] yeah and yeah [16m 57s] this is my motivation behind it and now [17m] matt can talk about the other side [17m 3s] because [17m 4s] he is a manager in his company so he can [17m 9s] talk about and think about the sahayan [17m 11s] process [17m 12s] and he's he has already validated my [17m 16s] idea that it [17m 17s] is helpful so yeah and that was that was [17m 20s] the main thing is that tom said [17m 22s] what if i built something like this and [17m 23s] i said that would be very helpful for me [17m 25s] in the hiring process so [17m 26s] essentially the value for me is when [17m 28s] somebody applies to titan [17m 30s] um there's historically been you know a [17m 33s] value made say hey if you have these [17m 34s] open source projects and contributions [17m 36s] it's helpful but that's not the only [17m 38s] thing we consider because some people [17m 39s] don't have time for that okay cool so [17m 41s] that's already noted but if we want to [17m 42s] look at somebody's open source [17m 43s] contribution [17m 44s] it's often difficult to know exactly [17m 47s] what the value is that they provided [17m 49s] there quite yet [17m 50s] and so one of the things that i've had [17m 51s] to do is learn to figure out how do you [17m 53s] look at the metrics that actually matter [17m 55s] so for example some people will say oh [17m 56s] i'm the number one contributor and the [17m 58s] number three contributor on [17m 59s] x and y large project well it turns out [18m 1s] all other contributions are [18m 2s] you know grammar changes uh they haven't [18m 5s] written a single line of code [18m 6s] which you know can be helpful at times [18m 8s] but that's not necessarily the same as [18m 9s] writing core code [18m 11s] and so i now of course i'm good at [18m 13s] looking at github and figuring out [18m 15s] what some has somebody contributed to [18m 17s] and all that kind of stuff but still [18m 18s] it's not always totally transparent but [18m 19s] i know that there's a lot of hiring [18m 21s] managers who don't have the same [18m 22s] familiarity with the type of tech that [18m 24s] we're in viewing from people from [18m 25s] or they may interview across multiple [18m 27s] tech stacks and the people might do open [18m 29s] source in different places or [18m 30s] just because i know how to evaluate [18m 32s] somebody's contributions to [18m 34s] javascript and php and you know [18m 36s] vimscript doesn't mean necessarily i [18m 37s] would know how to evaluate their [18m 38s] contributions to [18m 39s] rubygems or anything like that um so [18m 43s] in general i like the idea that folks [18m 45s] who have been giving back to open source [18m 47s] can use that as reference points [18m 49s] for basically showing the value they [18m 51s] have to offer somebody [18m 53s] because a lot of folks who do open [18m 54s] source work have trouble kind of really [18m 56s] communicating that well in their [18m 57s] application process [18m 59s] yeah so this is also [19m 3s] something i've tried to to get around [19m 7s] showing some numbers like uh [19m 10s] 35 commits to this repository or changed [19m 14s] 3000 lines of code or whatever because [19m 16s] like let's say [19m 18s] these numbers aren't really trustworthy [19m 21s] and can mean whatever so you can change [19m 24s] the indentation of [19m 25s] 50 000 lines of code and yeah it shows [19m 29s] that you have [19m 29s] changed 50 000 likes of code but if you [19m 31s] check out the commit it's [19m 33s] yeah you see okay he has changed [19m 35s] indentation which can be helpful [19m 37s] in means of accessibility but uh [19m 41s] isn't like let's say it's the same like [19m 43s] if you have [19m 44s] wrote the whole documentation or [19m 47s] provided real [19m 48s] code features or whatever [19m 52s] yeah so to the next slide [19m 55s] oh panda me uh some [19m 58s] have guessed it yeah so it's an old [20m] missing so this is intentional [20m 3s] so point one open door [20m 6s] me goes like 100 times the domain [20m 11s] and secondly uh i like this [20m 14s] little misspelling in the name because [20m 16s] it's [20m 18s] it's now like a brandable name and [20m 22s] it also seems like something so [20m 25s] if we look back towards like operator so [20m 28s] the person who opens to us so panda [20m 32s] i don't know if it's only me but it [20m 34s] sounds like this [20m 35s] and yeah this is a background behind the [20m 39s] surname uh it should be a door opener [20m 42s] this is also what the website says in [20m 45s] the hero section [20m 46s] and no uh [20m 50s] daniels i it could be a netherlands or [20m 53s] something like this but [20m 54s] dua in yeah it is one [20m 57s] o but with a t so it's [21m] and and but whatever [21m 5s] [Applause] [21m 7s] yeah and there was a question by [21m 12s] by what in the comments [21m 16s] exactly so there's one limitation we [21m 18s] have right now [21m 20s] uh we are only unable to index [21m 22s] repositories [21m 23s] and organizational repositories by [21m 27s] persons who have [21m 28s] already signed up so for laravel [21m 31s] community for example this should [21m 32s] already be a lot uh because i was able [21m 36s] to get some [21m 37s] major maintainers of liable open source [21m 41s] projects [21m 42s] to onboard beforehand in the beta [21m 44s] process [21m 45s] like titan sparsia [21m 49s] ryan chandler and some other previous [21m 52s] so c should be indexed well enough [21m 56s] but if you join in from another text [21m 59s] deck for example [22m] or uh any other language even [22m 4s] this could be not [22m 7s] all of your contributions so i've added [22m 10s] this small uh notice on your profile [22m 13s] section [22m 13s] in the upper part and it can also take [22m 17s] up to [22m 17s] 24 hours that we index all relations [22m 20s] even to [22m 20s] repositories we have already on our [22m 23s] index because of some github [22m 25s] api limitations but this is a bit [22m 28s] too deep code diving right now we will [22m 30s] do it later on our discord [22m 33s] so if you want to check out the code and [22m 35s] my learnings and also stuff i will talk [22m 37s] about [22m 37s] later on on the astrotomic discord [22m 39s] channel [22m 42s] so the girls it should be [22m 45s] accessible to everyone so [22m 48s] not only tech people using github daily [22m 51s] and [22m 52s] being familiar with everything that [22m 54s] happens [22m 55s] but also to people like recruiters and [22m 58s] uh human resource department and also [23m 1s] stuff and even your mother for example [23m 2s] so if she knows at least [23m 4s] what is said php is a programming [23m 6s] language uh [23m 8s] your mother should at least [23m 10s] understand the top [23m 11s] section until we get to the repository [23m 15s] list [23m 16s] uh it's also non-profit so there's only [23m 19s] one feature idea on the roadmap we have [23m 22s] right now that could be [23m 24s] a pay feature but only for recruiters [23m 27s] um i'm really thinking about it if i [23m 30s] want to do it or not [23m 32s] but for the moment it's non-profit it's [23m 35s] totally funded by [23m 36s] my own pocket and my github sponsors [23m 40s] so at this place already a big thank you [23m 44s] to [23m 44s] all my github sponsors who are paying [23m 47s] me to do open source and have [23m 51s] made portals possible that i can come up [23m 53s] with or [23m 54s] yeah even multiple servers for this [23m 56s] project [23m 58s] and responsibility as [24m 1s] i know set being part of the hiring [24m 4s] process is [24m 5s] really a sensible thing [24m 9s] i want to only promote people in this [24m 14s] process and don't provide the tools that [24m 16s] is used to [24m 17s] to bring people down so i really try to [24m 20s] provide the tools that doesn't [24m 24s] yes it doesn't provide any comparison [24m 26s] like oh you only did like [24m 29s] three commits to this one i really want [24m 31s] to do [24m 32s] like oh you did three commits it is even [24m 35s] more [24m 36s] than for example i did or whatever so [24m 39s] all the valuings that you have done open [24m 41s] source because every single commit to [24m 43s] every single repository is [24m 45s] a work you most time do in your free [24m 47s] time and without getting [24m 50s] getting any pay for it or whatever [24m 54s] so roadmap launching mvp is already done [24m 58s] so some future things are [25m 2s] getting in some interactivity like user [25m 4s] profile customization adding your [25m 7s] gender or pronoun you want to get in [25m 10s] your [25m 11s] first paragraph spoken languages because [25m 14s] this can be [25m 15s] important for recruiting like some [25m 17s] companies only want to hire german [25m 19s] english speaking people and [25m 22s] yeah adding pinned repositories for at [25m 25s] least maintainers i'm thinking about [25m 26s] doing the same for contributors so at [25m 29s] least maintainers can say [25m 31s] like on github these are my top [25m 34s] repositories [25m 36s] and recruiters as a user profile said [25m 40s] they can sign in and join [25m 42s] uh security with a profile with features [25m 45s] like [25m 46s] [Applause] [25m 47s] pinning or bookmarking single single [25m 50s] developers for [25m 51s] later use for example or organizations [25m 54s] to check out so [25m 56s] if i know that sparsi for example is a [25m 59s] has really high quality code i can pin [26m 3s] so organization to see all the [26m 6s] the contributors to i possibly want to [26m 9s] hire [26m 11s] yeah and also pdf export [26m 14s] so i know that a lot of high [26m 17s] offs of the part in the hiring process [26m 20s] is on paper [26m 21s] so i've seen it a lot of times that [26m 25s] my uh the other person on the table had [26m 29s] printed out my [26m 30s] my website for example and [26m 34s] yeah after this i think these two uh are [26m 37s] inverse so [26m 38s] uh batches and letters name it however [26m 41s] you want to batches or [26m 42s] metals achievements um but like two ways [26m 46s] for maintainers to [26m 48s] to add or to [26m 51s] yet to say that this contributor did a [26m 53s] really outstanding [26m 55s] uh job for the repository so [26m 59s] this can be a single batch if it's it [27m 2s] was good [27m 3s] and outstanding but uh nothing worth [27m 6s] changing in in sense of [27m 8s] for example totally rewriting a whole [27m 11s] repository [27m 12s] and yeah even letters as a [27m 15s] recommendation letter so [27m 16s] the maintainer can write a real [27m 18s] recommendation that we will [27m 20s] attach to the profile i'm thinking about [27m 22s] like a [27m 25s] a click clickable recommendation set [27m 27s] letter so [27m 28s] you don't have to write a whole one but [27m 31s] these are [27m 31s] future things too to think about and if [27m 34s] you have [27m 35s] your own ideas uh the whole repository [27m 38s] is open source [27m 39s] and we use github discuss discussions [27m 41s] for ideas [27m 42s] so just send in your idea i prefer [27m 45s] the scrum story part like as [27m 49s] whatever i want to be able to whatever [27m 53s] but yeah set in whatever it is you have [27m 56s] and [27m 56s] i'm using sir if you don't know it says [27m 59s] an arrow on on the left of these [28m 2s] discussions to to vote them up [28m 5s] and i use this upvoting to to decide [28m 8s] which [28m 9s] ideas i i will work next on [28m 14s] yeah so also my my sponsors [28m 17s] like say to made it possible to work on [28m 20s] this so [28m 21s] thank you to every single sponsor of [28m 23s] them [28m 24s] and sorry so there's one missing so [28m 28s] ping ping and clausable analytics are [28m 31s] sponsoring me by providing the tool for [28m 33s] free [28m 35s] and also others are my [28m 38s] github sponsors [28m 42s] yeah so if you want to contact me or [28m 46s] get in touch with the repository or [28m 48s] whatever there's a github repository [28m 51s] website you can email me [28m 53s] i will check them out please don't spam [28m 55s] me and [28m 58s] yeah i will send the discord link [29m 2s] on twitter and also here in chat [29m 5s] um so [29m 9s] for the after announcement stream code [29m 12s] diving session [29m 15s] and some parting words i [29m 19s] i thought are really matching [29m 22s] the project and [29m 26s] yeah i think i'm unable to [29m 30s] to really read some out because my [29m 31s] english isn't this good [29m 33s] but if matt wants and [29m 36s] uh if he doesn't just i think it's just [29m 40s] good for everybody to read them thank [29m 41s] you [29m 50s] so primaries the second one is was [29m 53s] really [29m 54s] how my carrier for example worked so i [29m 58s] always tried to to help others [30m] so my first open source contributions [30m 2s] were it's party for example [30m 4s] and i've also tried to help others and [30m 7s] other open source [30m 8s] ones and i'm now also yeah let's name it [30m 11s] a mentor [30m 12s] and helping single presence to to get [30m 15s] into [30m 16s] laravel php and so on and [30m 19s] yeah i've tried to always open doors for [30m 22s] others [30m 22s] and yeah this like said also open [30m 26s] my own doors so [30m 29s] i think there are more wordings like [30m 32s] this in different languages [30m 34s] said if you help others you get you get [30m 37s] get back [30m 38s] like karma [30m 42s] is there anyone who has any question [30m 44s] right now so [30m 45s] we can answer or we'll answer on stream [30m 49s] in independent if equation for me or [30m 52s] met or whatever [30m 58s] okay this is a really good one and i [31m 1s] think [31m 2s] says also a good point that [31m 6s] matt is on stream for this because uh [31m 8s] titan has a [31m 9s] a good project for this already and [31m 14s] yeah titan has a project named aussie [31m 17s] have i named it correctly [31m 19s] and yeah [31m 24s] we've already talked about it before uh [31m 27s] even [31m 28s] the idea of a panda to to different [31m 31s] ideas how to to work with aussie and [31m 34s] there was one idea to make it like a [31m 36s] panda as central point [31m 38s] so everyone can sign up to to aussie.com [31m 41s] for example [31m 42s] and we keep track on on all the [31m 47s] things but i think matt can explain [31m 49s] aussie a bit better [31m 50s] yeah so aussie was something i threw [31m 53s] together on a stream [31m 54s] once with the idea of making it easy to [31m 56s] see all of the [31m 57s] issues and pull requests and basically [31m 59s] work that needed to be done on all of [32m] titan's open source repositories [32m 2s] together in one place [32m 3s] so if you go to ozi.titan.co [32m 6s] you can see what an install of it looks [32m 8s] like and a few other companies [32m 10s] discovered it [32m 10s] pretty recently and said oh you know we [32m 13s] want this too [32m 13s] and so you know including spots he gave [32m 15s] us some really helpful pull requests and [32m 17s] issues and stuff like that [32m 18s] um we've talked about the possibility of [32m 19s] it being a centralized software as a [32m 21s] service in case there's any reason for [32m 22s] people to consume it [32m 23s] but i think the biggest the simplest [32m 25s] thing to do right now is is for [32m 27s] spotty and titan both of us make it [32m 28s] public whether through aussie or [32m 30s] something else [32m 30s] to say here's some great places for you [32m 32s] to go check out some of our easiest [32m 34s] um you know things to work on so for [32m 36s] titan it would be aussie.taken.co i [32m 38s] don't know if um spotsies is public i [32m 40s] think it's not [32m 41s] but i know that freak often tweets [32m 43s] things out just saying hey here's an [32m 45s] easy open source um you know issue for [32m 47s] you to check out so that'd be a place to [32m 48s] look as well [32m 50s] yeah so if [32m 53s] matt or titan doesn't want to work on [32m 56s] aussie as a central sync i [32m 58s] think uh matt is fine with me [33m 1s] copying some of the logic like the [33m 3s] technical depth [33m 4s] it's a it's a magic number in aussie [33m 7s] to decide which repository needs the [33m 10s] most record [33m 11s] and as we already have most of the data [33m 14s] so [33m 14s] we we have already indexed organizations [33m 17s] users repositories [33m 20s] and have also a lot of these needed [33m 23s] github api [33m 24s] access tokens it's not [33m 27s] too much work for me for example to [33m 31s] to index also this technical depth score [33m 35s] for [33m 35s] repositories um [33m 38s] in turn yeah if if matt would [33m 42s] publish aussie you would have to sign up [33m 44s] to two tools and [33m 46s] we would again add lum some linking via [33m 48s] apis between these tools so [33m 50s] it could definitely be an idea [33m 54s] to to add or to bring in aussie logic [33m 56s] into a panda [33m 59s] and yeah we did [34m 2s] we built a headless version of ozzy into [34m 5s] ozzy did we merge that yet [34m 7s] yeah not this full headless but [34m 10s] uh yeah an api endpoint to to retrieve [34m 14s] most of the information for a single [34m 15s] repository but [34m 17s] this only works for titan right now [34m 19s] because titan has this aussie instance [34m 22s] so yeah and so there's possibility for [34m 24s] us to build other tooling in the future [34m 26s] that makes it easier for folks who are [34m 27s] allowing people who are interested to [34m 31s] expose the projects that they want other [34m 33s] people's help on so that's something [34m 35s] you know something definitely keep [34m 36s] thinking about down the road and bring [34m 38s] in an aussie will also be [34m 40s] like a reason for maintainers to sign up [34m 43s] so right now the maintainers mostly sign [34m 45s] up only to [34m 46s] yeah to get their own profile and to [34m 49s] make it possible for [34m 50s] for appender to index the repositories [34m 53s] they maintain [34m 54s] and if we bring an aussie into [34m 57s] a panda it will be another reason for [35m] maintainers because they [35m 2s] get yeah [35m 5s] so publicity [35m 9s] of getting yeah getting this [35m 13s] technical gap store and [35m 17s] having contributors willing to [35m 21s] uh to help them out [35m 24s] at one single place to find repositories [35m 27s] needing a need of help [35m 35s] this one not yet and [35m 39s] this was something i had in the very [35m 42s] first place [35m 43s] so as an administrator i'm able to [35m 47s] submit organizations or repositories but [35m 49s] not [35m 50s] a single user and this has something to [35m 52s] do with [35m 53s] github api limits or rate limits [35m 56s] so we only use fully public [35m 59s] api endpoints so we don't retrieve any [36m 2s] data set [36m 3s] uh isn't retrievable even without an [36m 6s] access token so the access token only [36m 8s] increases our rate limit but [36m 12s] if if everyone would be able to submit [36m 15s] organizations [36m 16s] or repositories we would end up with [36m 19s] quickly indexing whole github [36m 23s] without having enough access tokens so [36m 26s] every access token [36m 27s] gives us 5 5000 [36m 31s] requests per hour but only not only us [36m 34s] it's per user so if you use other github [36m 37s] integration tools [36m 39s] uh you as a user have five thousand [36m 41s] requests so if [36m 42s] one tool uses one thousand and we use [36m 44s] one thousand you only have three [36m 46s] thousand left [36m 47s] um so it wouldn't be this helpful [36m 51s] if opener would use your whole 5000 [36m 54s] request power [36m 56s] and it's quite a lot of requests we use [37m] to index whole organizations for example [37m 2s] so sparse here this over 200 [37m 5s] repositories [37m 6s] consumes i think like for [37m 10s] 300 requests and [37m 15s] this would be the same if someone for [37m 17s] example wants to submit a [37m 19s] tool by microsoft or whatever these [37m 22s] organizations have a ton [37m 23s] of open source repositories and we will [37m 26s] scan all of them [37m 29s] so the best thing you can do [37m 33s] is talk to the maintainer and ask them [37m 36s] to [37m 36s] or ask them kindly to sign up on panda [37m 40s] um yeah if there's a really big one [37m 44s] you want to have indexed you can open an [37m 47s] issue or [37m 48s] better a discussion on github and i will [37m 51s] see [37m 51s] if i can get it in [37m 54s] without having the maintainer to to sign [37m 57s] up but for the moment [37m 58s] this is the only thing you can do as a [38m 2s] as a user [38m 7s] yeah so [38m 11s] that's all already [38m 16s] um i would quickly [38m 19s] check out [38m 27s] how many people oh okay [38m 30s] thanks a lot to to also people who have [38m 33s] already signed up [38m 34s] so [38m 37s] we now have [38m 40s] 40 more users like before the stream so [38m 44s] this is a lot i think and [38m 48s] yeah for all of you uh wanting to [38m 51s] discuss further with me [38m 53s] and get a quick blink on the code [38m 57s] and all the stuff um [39m 1s] i will tweet the discord link and i have [39m 4s] already did so on twitter so if you [39m 6s] search my profile you will find it but i [39m 8s] will also tweet it again [39m 10s] and you can join our discord server [39m 14s] and i think yeah around [39m 18s] 45 minutes or even full hour [39m 22s] i will join in the discord and talk [39m 25s] about our [39m 27s] my own learning stories last month and [39m 30s] some code things i've done to to [39m 33s] optimize it [39m 34s] it's like say it a multi-server [39m 36s] infrastructure so [39m 38s] i can also talk about laravel behind [39m 40s] load balancer [39m 41s] and having a dedicated q worker a [39m 44s] database server [39m 46s] and yeah for all people interested in [39m 49s] numbers yeah i've [39m 50s] worked now so real code work a whole [39m 53s] month on it [39m 55s] my first commit was on 14 [39m 59s] march and [40m 3s] following my my php storm time tracker [40m 6s] it's now over 100 hours only coding [40m 12s] and also a lot more hours of getting [40m 16s] ideas and sleepless nights and [40m 18s] chatting with matt so [40m 24s] yeah oh a good idea yeah i [40m 28s] i can try out to to also code in public [40m 33s] and yeah [40m 38s] and i'm at not yet uh [40m 41s] i was totally focused on getting [40m 44s] the real app done so there's no readme [40m 47s] right now says [40m 49s] only a license and [40m 52s] uh nothing more but i will work on this [40m 54s] um [40m 55s] in the future right now it's also pretty [40m 58s] limited because you need a nova license [41m] to do a composer install [41m 2s] meta meta and i have worked on an [41m 4s] optional nova package [41m 6s] some i think two weeks ago [41m 9s] and this has also some [41m 13s] quirks and you it's more like hacking uh [41m 17s] it's it's a way to for open source [41m 20s] packages like uh [41m 21s] i think matt has used it for what was it [41m 29s] uh i don't remember was it [41m 34s] something was it was your your love of [41m 37s] the learning platform this [41m 38s] wasn't oh i don't i don't care yeah [41m 42s] on rip yeah so and for me it's opener [41m 47s] uh this isn't really public now so [41m 51s] you can't do a composer install or [41m 53s] whatever without an over license [41m 55s] and for i can't right now i'm using the [41m 59s] font awesome pro one which is also a [42m 1s] paid license you need [42m 4s] to do a yarn install so you can't test [42m 7s] code [42m 7s] locally right now without having these [42m 10s] two licenses [42m 11s] i am working at least on [42m 14s] and making nova optional or even replace [42m 17s] it with [42m 18s] something else um but nova was a faster [42m 22s] way for me right now to get a back [42m 24s] office [42m 26s] and yeah [42m 34s] so i think this was the stream [42m 39s] i hope you all enjoy the project [42m 42s] and feel free to to share it out [42m 46s] so share your own profile on twitter or [42m 49s] share the tool or talk your [42m 52s] with your favorite maintainer to join or [42m 55s] panda so [42m 56s] his repositories are indexed and [43m] yeah you you can copy the link [43m 4s] of your profile to your cv or whatever [43m 6s] to [43m 7s] already make it part of your of your own [43m 10s] application process [43m 13s] so yeah thanks frank [43m 18s] and yeah [43m 22s] have a nice evening and [43m 26s] see you next time and for all willing on [43m 29s] discord [43m 31s] see y'all later oh freaks this is [43m 34s] the kindest thing you you could say [43m 37s] to me see you
